If I remember correctly, some of them assign the nickname in the roster/contactlist when adding the contact to the roster. So, the contact will remain with the nickname that was assigned when it was added.</p> <p>Do you expect that a Jabber client checks periodically the nicknames of all your contacts? With what periodicity: every time you login, every day, every hour, every second...? </p> <p>Also, if nicknames of your contacts in your roster can be continually modified by your contacts, it could become a surprise each day.</p> <p>I guess client developers go the easy and rational way, and the nickname is automatically assigned only when the contact is added.
