Ejabberd REQUIRES SASL authentication when client announces stream version 1.0.

I have been fighting with this same issue:

Here is what I see from my exodus client
Looking up SRV: _xmpp-client._tcp.nasnettst02.corp.inthosts.net
Got A: 10.46.12.10 5222
SENT:
RECV: <?xml version='1.0'?>
SENT: blahblah
RECV: DIGEST-MD5PLAIN
RECV: blahblah
SENT: blah

And it just hangs here. Never responds to this second query.

Well, it's strange. Let's try the normal questions:

What version of Psi, ejabberd and Erlang?
What does Exodus debug XML show?
Try with Tkabber. If it does not work, what does 'raw XML' show?
