If it didn't work then I guess I could just use yahoo-transport-2... I could still send / receive messages anyway.

It can be a bug. Yahoo-transport-2 is obsolete and unmaintained. I can't help with that. Another Yahoo! transport is the transport included in xmpppy, but this is also in development, and I also did not tested it.
