can i set odbc on ejabberd with utf8mb4 for emoji?

hi
i have a problem with emoji cant store on mysql. just plane emoji can store on mysql. i set mysql like https://mathiasbynens.be/notes/mysql-utf8mb4#utf8-to-utf8mb4

so what is the problem? i think i must set odbc whit utf8mb4 too
