I'm not sure if this is the best place to put the question, mod's; feel free to move it if needed.
I have a jabber server up and working quite happily on my server and want to build a bot to do some action based on the message I pass it.
I'm quite good at PHP and ok at Python so have been looking at some of the libraries that I can build a bot based on those languages.
The issue is that I don't know where / what is the best way to go about this project.
What would be the best language to build a bot thats always online and listening for commands from?
Would it be better to build said bot in Python and run a cron job of the script every second?
Any advice you can give would be fab,
