we've updated ubuntu 14 to ubuntu 16.04. (ejabberd version 16.01-2)
Now clients like empathy or telepathy didn't get authenticated.
(Failed authentication for .....)
But pidgin 2.10.12 and Gajim 0.16.5-0.1 works without problems.
Any clue?

If you updated ejabberd from
If you updated ejabberd from a version like 14, or 15, to a recent 16.01, maybe some bugs in authentication verifications were fixed, and old clients that ejabberd didn't verify correctly are now rejected.
Maybe your server has some option like starttls_required enabled, but those clients are not able to support all that is required...
Check in the ejabberd log files, maybe there's some clue. You can try to connect to ports 5222, 5223, with TLS, with SSL, SASL, or without them... maybe you find some combination that works for those clients. Or try to update them to their latest versions.
