You didn't mention, but you configured ejabberd to use ODBC storage, the same database for both vhosts. You need to create different databases for each vhost, and configure accordingly ejabberd.
Also, the users can add accounts from the other host to their contact list. What I'm basically getting at is that I would like to have each host act as a private network, completely secluded from the other.
That isn't configurable. But maybe you find some module to limit communication between vhosts.
