I have an ejabberd server running on FreeBSD. The server has not changed, but my PC did die recently, so I installed a new system for myself. Instead of using GAIM 1.5 (which was current when my old machine was installed), I'm using Pidgin. I went to announce something yesterday and discovered that although I can add the /announce/online user to my buddy list, I am unable to use it because Pidgin is waiting for authorization. Since it's not a real user, there's no way that I know of to send an authorization message to allow me to announce. My Jabber ID does have permission to announce, as evidenced by my being able to when using GAIM.
Any ideas of how I can get announcements working?
You could use
You could use mod_admin_extra's command add_rosteritem which allows to set subscription.

More information: I updated to ejabberd 2.1.9 in the hopes that it would fix the problem. Ended up killing the server for a while - found out that neither the mod_ctlextra or mod_admin_extra modules can be found.
