Step by Step Installation Procedure to Run Ejabberd in Windows

Can someone post a step by step installation procedure to run ejabberd in Windows? I have tried installing it several times but I just could not get to register an admin user. I also tried using ejabberdctl but the error below shows

(ejabberd@win2kpro)5> ejabberd_ctl:process(["register","mike","localhost","pass"
]).
** exited: {undef,[{ejabberd_ctl,process,
[["register","mike","localhost","pass"]]},
{erl_eval,do_apply,5},
{shell,exprs,6},
{shell,eval_loop,3}]} **

=ERROR REPORT==== 26-May-2006::02:10:05 ===
Error in process <0.308.0> on node 'ejabberd@win2kpro' with exit value: {undef,[
{ejabberd_ctl,process,[["register","mike","localhost","pass"]]},{erl_eval,do_app
ly,5},{shell,exprs,6},{shell,eval_loop,3}]}

Can someone tell me if I missed any step in the list:
1. Default Installation of erlang_otp_win32_R11B-0.exe.
2. Default Installation of Win32OpenSSL-v0.9.8b.exe
3. Default Installation of ejabberd-1.1.1.exe.
4. Edited C:\Program Files\Ejabberd\ejabberd.cfg.
5. Added line {acl, admin, {user, "admin","localhost"}}.
6. Restarted Ejabberd.
7. Default Installation of psi-0.10-jejabber-client.exe (jabber client).
8. Using psi, registered New Account Jabber ID: admin@localhost.
9. This is where I am stuck. I could not proceed any further from here. It just seems hang. Below is the Erlang screen:

Eshell V5.5 (abort with ^G)
(ejabberd@win2kpro)1>

Issue resolved by installing

Issue resolved by installing erlang_otp_win32_R10B-10.exe instead.

Can anyone tell me how to install jwchat using IIS 5.0 using an intranet server LOCALHOST? I am as far as logging into the jwchat web page.

my ejabbed.cfg has the following relevant entries:
{host, "localhost"}.

{listen,
...
{5280, ejabberd_http, [http_poll, web_admin]}

I am using var SITENAME = "localhost" under config.js
http://localhost:5280/http-poll display XML document must have a top level element

Can I use localhost as the sitename?
how do I configure ISAPI_Rewrite?
Do I just add RewriteProxy (/http-poll/) http\:// localhost\:5280$1 in httpd.ini?
IIS 5 default web site have been set to jwchat directory. I get the login page but after I enter user password, it goes back to login page.

I've temporary updated the download URL so that it directly points to a working Erlang binary.

Step by Step Installation Procedure

I am stuck here, too. I followed your advice by installing the R10B-10.exe instead of R11B-0, and I'm pretty sure I did all the steps you listed correctly. I am using Exodus as my jabber client. In my Erlang screen, I am getting several:

Mnesia(ejabberd@vlaytonxp560l): ** WARNING ** Mnesia is overloaded: {dump_log,

followed by a single instance of:

I have no clue what is going on. Can you help me?

Thanks for any advice you or anyone else can offer!

Newbie struggling

I followed your advice, which I love by the way (very simple), but get this error.

I'm running Ejabberd 1.1.1 on window XP sp2 with otp_win32_R10B-10.exe

Any thought?
Thanks
Marc

Hello, The error code is

Hello,

The error code is {error,duplicate_name}. It means that an Erlang virtual machine with the same name exists. You have a server currently running, probably as a background service.
