We are running ejabberd 1.4 on a Debian woody box. We are using GAIM for the chat app, and despite the fact that we can sign on and the users show up under the jabberd.cfg and the web admin GUI as well. I cannot add the other test user, (there are two of us) even when I manually attempt to. Has anyone else run into this? We are VERY new to jabber and were hoping a seasoned veteran could give us a better idea of what to do beyond the man or the op guide found at ejjaberd.jabberstudio.org/guide.html. All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Sander. I actually read through that manual, it is very helpful but doesn't have that much information beyond the initial install. I will re-read it though, in case I missed something.

Please, click first on the URL in my post: it is **another** tutorial than the guide you mentioned in your first post. This tutorial includes easy step-by-step information for installing ejabberd on all three Debian versions. The doc you were reading includes only information about installing ejabberd from source (which is more difficult).

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I did read (and print) that article, as well as 'little tricks' and 'performance tuning'. Thanks again Sanders, and sorry for the miscommunication. I am happy to report that we now have four test users sucessfully chatting, one of which is in another continent ;)

You MUST read immediately How To Ask Questions The Smart Way and How to (and how to not) ask for help.
You must help other people to understand what are you trying to do, how do you are trying to accomplish it, where did you find a problem, and what error did you receive.

It amazes me how quick this community is to tear down another through insults and disparaging comments (next time rather than typing out those ridiculous links you might want to stepo away from your machine and take a walk to clear your head). I have read everything I can find online and with that knowledge I attempted to give all the information I could. I did my best to identify what I am running. My apologies for not being as knowledgable as you would like me to be. I guess people feel better about themselves by tearing down others. Thanks for your candor.
