I recall reading that a developer identified two Linux distributions as the "best" platforms for ejabberd. (yes I'm aware it comes prepackaged in many OS')
My purpose for the moment is to tinker with it on a spare box (dedicated) and then use it for a small biz concept. Since it's a dedicated box for this soul purpose, I can run most any Nix flavor.
Suggestions/Opinions?
I don't remember reading such
I don't remember reading such statement. In any case, there isn't a long running and well accepted word that some OS is the best for running ejabberd. Also remember that ejabberd runs on top of Erlang/OTP, not directly on top of the machine kernel.
To reduce consumption resources, you surely want to have some kind ofkernel poll support . All recent Linux 2.6, FreeBSD, ... support it.
Anyway, if you someday finally find a link to that developer text, please reference it in this thread so it can be accessed by other interested people :)
Finally, if you now select an OS, and in some months somebody shows proof that another OS/kernel/distribution is preferable, you can switch to it, right?
