Using MicroSoft Messenger, I have found that a particularly powerful method of collaboration is to dynamically add users to a conversation.
is this possible using ejabberd, and some Jabber client?
note that I'm NOT talking about setting up a static/persistant MUC chat-room, which seems to be working fine for me.
an example of the collaboration I'm talking about is:
- in my Systems support role, I'm messaging with a person in a client dept.
- we discover an additional resource will facilitate solution of our problem, and we add them.
- we add additional people to the conversation which persists untill the problem is solved, then we all "leave"
the conversation.
this is so easy, and so powerful under MicroSoft Messenger -- can I do it with jabber?
thanks,
-Kevin
Yahoo! Messenger can do this
Yahoo! Messenger can do this also.

So? We are talking about jabber here, right?
thanks for the tip about Gajim

yes, I'm talking about jabber, in particular, I want ejabberd server to support this feature.
the reason I mention Yahoo!, Microsoft Messengers is that I have used them in the past, and setting
up what I'm calling "dynamic" conversations is what people do all day -- it didn't occur to me
that jabber/ejabberd couldn't do it, and I can't understand why people are "sold" on jabber/ejabbered
if it doesn't do it.
thanks for the tip about Gajim -- I will check it out.
Best,
-Kevin

Once again: this is a feature of client, not server. Seehttp://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0045.html#continue .
If you need this feature and you don't want to use Gajim, contact the developers of your favorite jabber client. ejabberd is *not* responsible for this feature.

If you like yahoo or m$ messenger then go and use them. Noone here will sell you on jabber/ejabberd.
thanks
thenks for your excellent technical feedback zinid -- that really helped me get my mind around this
jabber thing.
I am happily using gajim per your suggestion.
